This beautiful white Ganesha statue is made from sandstone. The Hindu elephant god Ganesh is often evoked at the beginning of an important undertaking to bestow wisdom and prosperity and clear all obstacles.
It is said that his father Shiva cut off his head and replaced it with an elephants head. This can be seen as a symbolic act of cutting off the discursive mind to make space for direct, non-discursive wisdom.
Ganesha is said to have written down the ancient Indian epic The Mahabharata as it was whispered to him by the sage Vyasa. While writing, his ink feather broke so he cut off his tusk to continue writing. In this statue, he is depicted holding pieces of his tusk, symbolizing the lack of self clinging of the wisdom mind.
Size: 5.12 x 3.94 inch (13 x 10 cm)
